CARLISLE United's newest signing Will Patching has said that he is 'delighted' after signing a two-and-a-half-year contract at Brunton Park.

The 26-year-old midfielder, who started his footballing journey in the Manchester City youth ranks, will join Carlisle United on Wednesday, January 1 when the winter transfer window opens and following the conclusion of his deal at League of Ireland Premier Division side Derry City.

Patching becomes the Blues' first signing of the January transfer window as an under-pressure Mike Williamson starts to tinker his squad in a bid to haul Carlisle United off the bottom of League Two.

After his arrival at Carlisle United, Patching discussed what had attracted him to Brunton Park and his desire to help the Blues propel themselves up the table.

Speaking on Carlisle United's CUTV, he said: "I'm delighted to be here and I can't wait to get going.

"I had a chat with the manager a couple of weeks ago and his style of play and his vision for the club and the way he wants to play I think suits me very well.

"It's not a position we want to be in but with the quality in the squad, I'm sure we can have a good second half of the season and get out of it."
