Jose Mourinho has hinted at what his next job will be despite his current role with Fenerbahce.

The former Manchester United manager arrived in Turkey in the summer after being sacked by Roma earlier this year. Mourinho was brought in to help win Fenerbahce's first league title since the 2013/14 season, with rivals Galatasaray largely dominating domestically.

But the Istanbul-based club sit second in the Turkish Super Lig table, eight points off Galatasaray. Mourinho has encountered similar problems to some of the struggles he faced at previous clubs with supporters frustrated by Fenerbahce's defensive style under the Portuguese head coach.

And amid an uncertain long-term future in Turkish football, Mourinho has admitted he would like to manage a national team in a major tournament one day.

""Yes. I want to play a European Championship or a World Cup, to unite a country around its national team in the same way I have managed so many times with clubs and fans," he told Italian publication Corrieredellosport.

"I want to do it for football, for what this sport represents. It will be incredible."

'The Special One' was last seen in the English top flight managing Tottenham, where he got the axe in 2021. Following disappointment in north London and a mixed tenure at United, it's evident Mourinho's fortunes have dwindled since his second Chelsea departure.

After his Fenerbahce team’s Europa League draw against United in October, he suggested a future in English football could be in the offing.

"The best thing I have to do is when I leave Fener is that I go to a club that doesn't play in UEFA competition," he said. "So, a club at the bottom in England who needs a coach in two years, I'm ready to go.

The Guardian have previously reported Mourinho has reached out to intermediaries to remain informed regarding the managerial situation at Newcastle, considering it as a potential destination should Eddie Howe leave. Additionally, there have been recent rumours linking him to Everton, though such a move seems less probable.
