Incredible opportunity arises as York Eagles Basketball Club travel to Sweden
YORK Eagles Basketball Club have announced that it will be taking 38 young boys and girls from York to participate in an international basketball tournament - taking place in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The prestigious event will bring together teams from across Europe, giving local athletes from York the opportunity to showcase their skills, build friendships and represent the city on the global stage.
York Eagles’ involvement in the basketball tournament will take place in May half-term, and is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the young players.
Not only will they compete against top tier teams, but they will also immerse themselves in Swedish culture and create memories that will last a lifetime.
Dave Smith, Head Coach of York Eagles Basketball Club, commented: “We are thrilled to offer this opportunity to our young athletes.
“This is more than just a basketball tournament - it’s a chance for personal growth, teamwork, and representing York with pride.”
To make this dream a reality, York Eagles are reaching out to local businesses, organisations, and community members for support. The cost of travel, accommodation, and participation is significant, and the Club is committed to ensuring that every child has the chance to attend, regardless of financial circumstances.
“We believe no child should miss out due to financial barriers,” said Coach Steven Hardisty, who is organising the trip.
“That’s why we’re launching a fundraising campaign to help cover the costs.
“We hope York’s amazing community will rally behind these kids and help us make this happen.”
The Eagles have set up a GoFundMe page to help co-ordinate their fundraising, which can be found HERE. Alternatively, you can search “Please help York Eagles play basketball in Gothenburg”.
York Eagles will be organising various fundraising events, including raffles and other community initiatives, and is also seeking sponsorships and donations from local businesses. Any contributions will directly support the young athletes and their journey to Sweden.
