Jack Leach will miss the remainder of England’s tour of India.

The spinner, 32, suffered a knee injury while fielding on the first day as the tourists picked up a surprise First Test win.

Having aggravated the problem later in that Test, he sat out the follow-up in Visakhapatnam earlier this month.

Ahead of England arriving in Rajkot for the Third Test of the five-match series, Leach has been ruled out and will soon travel home.

The squad had retreated to a training camp in Abu Dhabi in between games but Leach will now link up with the medical team at his county, Somerset, while also being closely monitored by the England staff.

It has also been decided that no replacement will be called up as a result of his absence.

Without Leach, England named Shoaib Bashir as part of their spin-heavy attack in the Second Test, alongside Tom Hartley, Rehan Ahmed and Joe Root.

The team for the Third Test, which starts Thursday, will be named in the coming days.
