Former Carlisle United loan man Joshua Kayode is back on the move amid another injury-hit season.

The striker has seen his loan spell with League One strugglers Shrewsbury Town cut short.

Kayode, 24, had joined the Shrews from Rotherham United on a season-long loan last summer.

But after making just seven appearances in the first half of the 2024/25 campaign, a calf injury hindering his time at the Croud Meadow, he has now returned to his parent club.

A statement from Shrewsbury, who sit third bottom of League One, said: "Shrewsbury Town can confirm that loanee JJ Kayode has returned to parent club Rotherham.

"The striker made seven appearances for Town during an injury-hit spell after arriving on a temporary basis back in August.

"Kayode is our third departure of the January window as we work to reshape our squad this month.

"Shrewsbury would like to thank JJ for all his hard work during his time in Shropshire.

"We wish him the very best of luck for the future."

Kayode scored one goal in his time at Shrewsbury, in August's Carabao Cup tie against Notts County.

He had been with United for most of last season but his loan spell was ruined by injury, limiting the frontman to just four Blues appearances.

That was his third loan spell with the Cumbrians, former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Kayode having also played for United in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons.

A further loan move could now be sought for the striker.
