Inside Antony Evans' injury troubles as Huddersfield Town prepare for Wycombe Wanderers
Huddersfield Town midfielder Antony Evans says he was “absolutely made up to be back out there” after making his return from injury.
The 26-year-old was brought on as a second-half substitute in Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Rotherham United as the midfielder made his first appearance for the club since October. Evans missed more than two months of the season with a toe injury and the midfielder is delighted to now be back available.
“It’s been a lot longer than everyone thought it was going to be, a bit of a weird one, but I’m absolutely made up to be back out there,” Evans told HTTV.

“At first, I didn’t really think much of it myself, a bit of bone bruising, but it turned out to be a lot worse. Every time I was trying to run, I was breaking down, so we had to reassess it, and then it took a bit longer than we all thought.
“I’m all good now. With bones, once it’s healed it’s healed, so I felt good. No issues since I’ve been training, and obviously getting back out there, it was fine today.
“I enjoyed that. To be fair, I was probably sharing minutes with Hodgey (Joe Hodge), he’s obviously coming back from injury, so we split the game.
“When the game’s like that, I want to be coming on trying to make an impact, hopefully try and get a goal or an assist, to try and chip in to help the lads, because I have been out for a while, and the lads have been doing a great job, so I’ve been missing it, and I’m just happy to be back out there.”
Reflecting on the mood of the players following Saturday’s goalless draw in the Yorkshire derby, Evans added: “A little bit disappointed, because obviously with it being a derby game, you want to be winning, and to be honest we owed them one after the one at their place, we felt we were a little bit hard done by there.”
The Terriers sit fourth in the League One table following the draw, on 44 points from 23 matches played, with half of their campaign now having been completed.
Town suffered a 2-1 defeat in the reverse fixture to Rotherham back in August, and reflecting on the progress his side have made since, Evans said: “I think we are a different group than what we were when we first played them. Winning games helps that.
“The gaffer’s been implementing his ways, everyone’s buying into it, and that’s probably the key. I think you need everyone to buy into it to be able to go and achieve something, which is what everyone wants out of this year.”
The Terriers now face Wycombe Wanderers away from home tomorrow evening in a clash at the top of the League One table. Matt Bloomfield’s side sit second in the division, on 51 points from 24 matches played, ahead of tomorrow's encounter at Adams Park.
Evans expressed his desire for the Terriers to take all three points from the contest, saying: “I think if we want to get to where we want to get to, we’ve got to go and enjoy these games, relish them and go and win.
“A point’s alright on the road, but we’ve all got ambitions of getting out of this league, so we’ve got to go and take it in our stride, and go and get three points.”
