Inter Miami's Neymar transfer plan could be bad news for Liverpool's Mohamed Salah hopes
Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas has insisted that the Major League Soccer side has an unlimited budget in the upcoming transfer window, and would love to sign Neymar from Saudi Arabia side Al-Ahli.
The Brazilian has endured a nightmare stint in the Middle East after leaving Paris Saint-Germain for the oil-rich nation in 2023. He's played just seven games in all competitions, having suffered an ACL injury shortly after arriving.
There have been reports linking him with an exit, with the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund-backed team looking to cut their losses on the $100 million man - but that could be bad news for Liverpool.
Currently, the PIF funds Al-Ahli, Al-Ittihad, Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr, therefore giving those four teams a bottomless pit of money to play with when it comes to signing players, with their top target being Liverpool man Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian King is arguably the best footballer on the planet right now, and he's leading Liverpool's assault on the Premier League and Champions League.
But the inescapable truth is that in just a few weeks' time, Salah can theoretically sign a pre-contract agreement with a non-English team, receive a mammoth signing-on fee, and leave the club for nothing in the summer.
He seems desperate to avoid that, despite the bevvy of top-level clubs circling the waters waiting for a development, and the forward has put the pressure on the club numerous times to get a contract signed, sealed and delivered.
Now, however, with the Saudi PIF bracing itself for losing Neymar, who is out of contract next summer anyway, it's likely Liverpool will have another hurdle to cross in order to get Salah to stay.
The Saudis have never liked being one-upped, and it's unreasonable to think they'd allow a player with the stature of Neymar to leave the heavily-funded league without a similarly-gigantic name coming in to replace him.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Mas explained Inter Miami's plan for attempting to sign Neymar. He said: "The key word is if he were to become available.
He is an Al-Hilal player now. He's not available to us. I have always said we aspire to bring great players to our team. We have a lot of roster limitations and restrictions, but we have an unlimited budget.
"We are aspirational. If there is ever a chance to bring the calibre of a player like Neymar, we will not hesitate. It doesn't depend only on me. It depends on the player and the league. But yes, we aspire to build a great roster here."
