INVERCLYDE Athletics Club's Lochlann Steele won bronze at the Scottish Students Indoor Track and Field Championships.

He secured third place in the 200-metre race at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, representing West College Scotland.

Having been disappointed with his recent performance at the January National Open, Steele's win in the 60m heats came as a great surprise.

He narrowly missed out on a place in the final despite running faster in the semi-final than in his initial heat.

He repeated this time in the final to claim his bronze.

Lochlann said: "Having run a season’s best in the semis, I really thought I would be slower in the final, but to run the same time again in my fifth race of the day, is a great boost that my training is heading in the right direction."
