AN INTREPID running trio brought three silver medals back to Inverclyde after a series of stunning performances in the Nigel Barge Memorial 10k race.

Inverclyde Athletic Club had three seniors taking part in the road race in Glasgow, part of a packed field of 317 finishers.

The Nigel Barge race, hosted by Maryhill Harriers, is reckoned to be the oldest running road race in Glasgow, having first been held in 1943 as a memorial to Nigel Barge who was killed at Dunkirk during the Second World War.

John Bell, the defending champion, was unfortunately unable to retain his title, which was won by Taha Ghafari, of Shettleston Harriers.

Jack Letson claimed a second placed finish in the M40 category, and while not recording a personal best, he can be satisfied that he is also on the right track for the upcoming races over the next few months.

Nynke Mulholland was competing in this race for the first time and was hoping to go under 35 minutes. However, considering the challenges posed by the course, she was happy with her performance and finishing position.
