Ipswich Town have confirmed that Atalanta defender Ben Godfrey has signed on loan until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old was in attendance at Craven Cottage as the Blues drew 2-2 with Fulham.

Negotiations were first revealed on Friday afternoon, with Godfrey completing his medical yesterday ahead of the move.

He could make his debut in the FA Cup next Sunday as Town host Bristol Rovers at Portman Road.

Born in York, the versatile centre-back through the Minstermen's academy before signing for Norwich City in 2016. He spent four years in Norfolk, helping the Canaries secure promotion to the Premier League in 2019.

A move to Everton - reportedly costing an initial £20 million - followed in 2020, with Godfrey remaining on Merseyside until 2024, when Atalanta swooped in. He's struggled for minutes in Bergamo, with manager Gian Piero Gasperini allowing him to leave the Serie A side this month.

Speaking to Town TV after the transfer was announced, the two-cap England international said: “It’s been an exciting couple of days and I’m just delighted to have signed and can’t wait to meet the lads and get started,” Ben told TownTV.

“I have really enjoyed speaking to the manager (Kieran McKenna) and to have the opportunity to work under him now is something I’m very excited about. I’ve watched a lot of the games from the first half of the season and you can tell from those that the group is a tight one, full of players giving everything to achieve their goals.

“I’ve not played as much as I would have liked so far this season, but I feel ready to contribute and am looking forward to getting out there.”
