Ipswich set to sign player in January transfer window days before Liverpool clash
Ipswich Town is reportedly set to make another addition in the January transfer market just days before it faces Liverpool.
The Tractor Boys head to Anfield on Saturday for the first time since 2002 and currently sit 18th in the Premier League table. In the midst of a relegation fight, Ipswich has used the January window to strengthen and has already brought in Jaden Philogene and Ben Godfrey.
A third arrival looks likely to be concluded in time for the weekend with Julio Enciso set to sign on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion. According to The Athletic, the loan will not include an option to buy and Ipswich fought off competition from Atalanta to secure his services.

The 20-year-old Paraguay international has already made 44 Premier League appearances and has played 16 times for the Seagulls in all competitions this season. He memorably netted a goal-of-the-season winner against Manchester City in May 2023 and was linked with a move to Pep Guardiola’s side that summer, but his career has stalled slightly since then.
Enciso has started just twice in the league this season under Fabian Hurzeler, and returned to the team in mid-December after an absence.
Asked what had changed with Enciso as he came back into the team, the Brighton boss replied: “His mindset in training. So, how he trained, how he behaved, how he acted. For me it’s so important to understand that the most important [thing] at this club is the success of the club.
“No individual player is bigger than a club. We have clear values here, clear principles, all the players have to stick to it. Success won’t come by individuals shining. Success will come if you stick together and, if you have success, individually you will shine.”
Asked recently about Enciso possibly leaving on loan, Hurzler added: “There are arguments for and against. But the most important is that he knows our arguments, and we know his.
“We have to negotiate what is best for his development. Is it playing every game, or training at the highest quality without playing every week? We’ll make the right decision.”
The talented midfielder would certainly boost Ipswich’s chances of preserving its Premier League status. Kieran McKenna’s side were beaten 6-0 by City last weekend but took four points from matches against Chelsea and Fulham around the turn of the year. The Suffolk side sits in the relegation zone on goal difference alone and is level on points with 17th-place Wolverhampton Wanderers.
