Sheffield Wednesday are among a number of Championship clubs eyeing a potential loan move for Ipswich Town promotion hero Harry Clarke, it has been reported.

The 23-year-old right-back, a product of the club's academy, played a key part in both Town's promotions over the past two seasons, having arrived back in Suffolk from Arsenal for £1m in January 2023.

But he's found game-time this season harder to come by, with just four starts in his seven top tier appearances so far.

Having already signed right-sided defender Ben Godfrey on loan from Atalanta earlier this week, Town will have to part company with players this month as they bid to sign more new recruits.

And, according to the Sheffield Star, the Owls are among a number of second tier clubs considering a move for Clarke.

Wednesday, who are three points off the play-off places in the Championship, apparently want to improve their defensive options and see Clarke as a good fit for boss Danny Rohl's system.

Mark's verdict: With the signing of Godfrey and Axel Tuanzebe on his way back from injury, plus the form of Dara O'Shea on the right side of Town's new back three, it feels like chances could be limited for Clarke going forward.

Ben Johnson and Wes Burns are both options at right wing-back too, and both are probably ahead of Clarke in the pecking order there.

So, with some players having to depart this month in order to free up space for signings, it's entirely feasible that Clarke could be one who heads out on loan.
