ISAIAH Jones described his switch to Luton as the "perfect move" after his Middlesbrough exit was confirmed.

Jones has linked up with the Hatters after Luton and Boro agreed a deal worth up to £5m for the winger, who has been on the fringes at the Riverside this season.

Luton are currently managerless after the exit of Rob Edwards this week, but the capture of Jones was driven by the club's recruitment team and the dugout uncertainty had no impact on the move.

“I think it’s the perfect move for both parties,” said Jones.

“The project here, the success the club’s had over the past couple of years and moving back down south is an attractive proposition for me.

“This season’s been tough for Luton so far but there’s a really strong squad here and hopefully I can put a smile onto the fans’ faces.

“I’m direct, skilful and I like to give the crowd something to cheer. I can’t wait to get started.”

Jones made 149 appearances for Boro after being plucked from the London non-league scene, where he played for Tooting and Mitcham.

Jones was another success story for Martin Carter, Boro's head of academy recruitment, who also brought Djed Spence to the Riverside before he was sold to Tottenham for major money.

Jones initially broke into the Boro side under Neil Warnock before playing an integral role in the early success under Chris Wilder.

He barely featured in Michael Carrick's first season in charge but later opened up on the mental health battle he'd been facing after losing seven family members over the course of 12 months.

The 25-year-old re-established himself in Boro's side last season and his form led to a new and improved contract last April. But he lost his place in the side to impressive Liverpool loanee Ben Doak this season and it was felt that a move this month benefited all involved.

Boro are now weighing up their options when it comes to potentially replacing Jones, and closely monitoring Doak's situation amid Premier League interest in a permanent deal for the Scotland international.
