Island rowers win prestigious national awards
ISLE of Wight rowers finished the year in style by winning national awards.
Members of Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club won at the British Rowing Awards 2024.
Lesley Walters won the Talent Development Coaching Award, for her work in shaping the rowing club into a nationally competitive sculling centre.
Carter Horrix and Louis Sheasby won the Junior Crew Award.
The pair went undefeated domestically and internationally, becoming national champions and overcoming French opposition in this summer's GB versus France match.
Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club alumni Jamie Gamble won Young Coach of the Year for his efforts with the University of Surrey.
This year, the club won the Hampshire and Dorset Men's Junior Four Championship title with Arlo Adds and Freddie Giemza-Pipe.
The girls' J14 quadruple scull crew achieved a top ten finish at the National Schools Regatta in May.
The club has already begun preparations for 2025 and the upcoming season.
Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club said: "These impressive achievements are representative of the wonderful season at Shanklin this calendar year, spanning from the longer time-trial style winter races, to the shorter 2km summer racing."
