Frank Leboeuf has bizarrely slammed Liverpool as ‘unprofessional’ after the Reds’ 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday. First half goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah had appeared to put Arne Slot’s side in control.

However, Liverpool were not at their best against the Premier League strugglers, who halved the deficit midway through the second half through Matheus Cunha, as they endured a nervy finish at Anfield.

The victory restored the Reds’ seven-point lead over Arsenal at the top of the table as they bounced back from their disappointing FA Cup exit to Championship strugglers Plymouth Argyle and their Merseyside derby draw away at Everton after conceding a 98th minute equaliser.

While Liverpool's performance was not the best, the result will always be the most important thing for the Reds as they navigate a Premier League title-race.

But despite winning maximum points, Chelsea legend Leboeuf was left unimpressed with Liverpool’s performance against the West Midlands outfit as the World Cup winner strangely insisted they were ‘awful’ against Wolves.

“A lucky day for the Reds. A really lucky day for the Reds because they didn’t deserve to win,” he said on ESPN. “What I saw today, the second-half, from what I guess is the next champion of the Premier League, was quite unprofessional.

“And we’re talking about people with plenty of experience, with plenty of maturity and they didn’t do anything.

“It was amazing to see how they collapsed in that game, showing no strength, no unity. They were nowhere near it at all.

“I’ve never seen that in my life from a future champion. That was awful.”

Meanwhile, Leboeuf was also adamant that Ibrahima Konate should have been sent off against Wolves for a second bookable offence.

The France international was substituted at half-time, with Slot admitting he withdrew the already-booked defender to prevent him being sent off.

Konate had been booked on the half-hour mark for committing a foul and kicking the ball away, after losing possession in the attacking third. He later avoided a second booking less than 10 minutes later after barging into Matheus Cunha, with Wolves defender Emmanuel Agbadou being issued a yellow card himself for dissent for insisting the Liverpool star should have been sent off.

Head coaches Slot and Vitor Pereira would have differing views after the final whistle, with Lebouef siding with the Wolves boss as he declared his compatriot deserved to be sent off.

“I think there was a red card deserved from Konate,” he said. “I think he means to smash the guy, it should have been a second yellow card for me.”
