Jürgen Klopp looks set to stick by his plans to take a sabbatical after leaving Liverpool. The Reds boss announced in January that this would be his last season in charge after 'running out of energy' at Anfield.

Klopp insisted he would never manage another Premier League club and would take at least a year out from football. Since then, he has remained open about his future. He told Sky Sports last month: "Will I ever work again? Of course, I know myself, I cannot just sit around. I will find something else maybe to do

"But I will not manage a club or a country at least for a year, that’s not possible, I cannot do that and I don’t want to." Klopp will turn 57 this summer and reports suggest he could be lined up for a move away from the dugout.

According to The Independent, there have been discussions around former club Borussia Dortmund about potentially rehiring Klopp as 'head of football' in 2025. The German spent seasons in charge of Dortmund, winning the Bundesliga twice and reaching the Champions League final.

A move upstairs could ultimately suit Klopp at this stage of his career and he admitted in 2019 that he would consider returning to Dortmund, should it need his services. In the book 'Real Love - A life with Borussia Dortmund’ - by BVB CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke, which was serialized in SportBild, Klopp said: "As a rescuer in need, if the club really needs my help - why should not I do that?

"It's very nice that I could even have the opportunity. But, I admit, it does not seem so likely. There’s always something new to come."

Whether or not Dortmund is 'in need' is up for debate. Edin Terzic's side is through to the last four of the Champions League and takes on Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final first leg on Wednesday night.

But it has been a disappointing campaign domestically, with Dortmund sitting fifth right now after missing out on the title last season on goal difference. Klopp sent a good luck message to Terzic ahead of the final day and admitted (via Metro): "I know Edin very well, I know a lot of people very well at Dortmund. We were always in contact and we are now in contact."

Liverpool.com says: There is a desire at Dortmund to redeliver the success of the Klopp era, having not won the title since his exit in 2012. The Liverpool boss will take a break once he leaves Anfield and will spend plenty of time mulling over his next move. Taking a job 'upstairs' may appeal to him and would rule out any chance of coming up against the Reds.
