Jürgen Klopp was determined to savor every moment of his final Liverpool game. And at the final whistle, he delivered the exact kind of speech that you would imagine him to be capable of even in such an emotional moment.

Having walked through his guard of honor, set up by the Liverpool players and coaching staff, Klopp went back to the start to take in the moment for a second time. By the time he had reached the stage to receive an embrace from John W Henry, the Liverpool owner, and the rest of those stood on the temporary stage, the atmosphere had increased even further.

"It doesn't feel like the end," Klopp said. "It just feels like the start." That was just one of a number of iconic messages that he weaved into a seven-minute speech inside a packed Anfield. Even a few Wolves fans in the away end stayed behind to witness the iconic moment.

Typically, Klopp didn't want it to all be about him. He paid tribute to the players and the fans and gave away what is now an open secret by announcing Arne Slot as his replacement.

Referencing his own chant — 'Jürgen Klopp, na, na, na, na' — the German had an idea for an updated version. Addressing the crowd, he asked them to change the first two words to 'Arne Slot', and then led the first few renditions of serenading the incoming new head coach.

"Change is good," Klopp said. "And you never know exactly what to expect, but if you go with the right attitude into that, then everything will be fine, because the basics are 100 per cent there.

"They’re the team and that’s the new coach, sorry, manager, and you will care what I want you to think, but I have an idea. I heard the song today a few times, and you can do that, I have no problem with that, let’s see how the response will be."

Slot himself has essentially given the game away several times over the course of the last few weeks. Only this morning, Feyenoord released a video with You'll Never Walk Alone at the end in what was effectively confirmation of the inevitable. Liverpool will no doubt announce the Dutchman's arrival in due course, but wanted to get this moment out of the way beforehand.
