Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp expects Andy Robertson to be fit for the final match of the season against Wolves on Sunday. The Scotland captain missed the 3-3 draw with Aston Villa, having sat out training in recent days.

Joe Gomez again deputized against Villa and set up Cody Gakpo for the Reds' second goal, with his initial effort saved by Emiliano Martinez. Robertson had previously scored in Liverpool's last two matches against West Ham and Tottenham.

Klopp opted not to risk him at Villa Park but has suggested the left-back will now return to training before the last match of the campaign — and his tenure — at Anfield this weekend.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Klopp said: "I saw him this morning and he told me he’s ready to train from tomorrow on. That’s the situation.”

Klopp was also without Diogo Jota at Villa Park with the Portugal international having not played since the win over Fulham. He was tipped to be out for two weeks but has not yet returned to team training and is in a race against time to feature this weekend.

Joël Matip and Thiago Alcântara will bid farewell to Anfield on Sunday but are still sidelined with longer-term issues, while Bobby Clark will not be fit until pre-season. Conor Bradley did make his return to the matchday squad against Villa after his own injury but was an unused substitute.

Speaking after his side threw away a two-goal lead late on, Klopp said: "I don't feel frustrated. Maybe I should, but I just don't. I am really happy. Look, we all saw these kind of games before; we all saw games where one team is playing for absolutely everything and one team is already fixed in one position.

"For me, the story of the season is that the boys have really, really good character and a sensational attitude — that's why we were here today and that's why we have now 79 points. I know nobody wants to hear it, but being this season the third-best team in the league from where we came from is a statement as well."

Liverpool.com says: It was a thrilling game at Villa Park and a fitting final away match for Klopp, although his side should probably have seen it out and got all three points. Focus will now turn to Sunday and what promises to be an incredibly emotional afternoon against Wolves for Klopp, his players and the supporters.
