Rangers goalie Jack Butland is set to miss the highly anticipated Old Firm clash with Celtic after being hospitalised with an internal bleed in his leg. The 31 year old shot-stopper is now recuperating at home and won't feature in the William Hill Premiership face-off at Ibrox on Thursday.

Rangers revealed on their official channel: "Rangers can confirm goalkeeper Jack Butland will miss tomorrow’s Old Firm match with Celtic.. The goalkeeper suffered an internal bleed in his leg which required hospital treatment, but he has since been released and is recovering."

The club also conveyed their best wishes: "Everyone at Rangers wishes Jack a speedy recovery."

In Butland's absence, Liam Kelly is expected to fill the gloves against Celtic. Kelly's sole outing for the Gers since his transfer from Motherwell last summer was during their narrow win over Dundee on December 21.

With Rangers lagging behind league front-runners Celtic by 14 points, they aim to make amends for the 3-0 defeat earlier in the season at Parkhead. Philippe Clement's squad hopes to bounce back from last month's League Cup final upset, where they lost to Celtic in a dramatic penalty shootout.

Butland came through at Blues before being sold to Stoke, where he spent seven years and played for England. He spent another three years at Crystal Palace. He joined Rangers in 2023.
