Jack Grealish has found himself out of favour and playing fewer minutes at Manchester City - while his future is uncertain after manager Pep Guardiola raised concerns about his fitness - but despite always claiming that he would love a return to Aston Villa some day, most supporters in the Birmingham Live comments section say that the opportunity may have passed him by already.

Grealish has won the biggest titles in the club game since his £100million transfer to City in 2021, with three league titles, one Champions League medal and an FA Cup to his name. Villa have made considerable strides since his sale, with that summer seeing them bring in Emi Buendia, Lucas Digne and Leon Bailey.

Now the clubs' fortunes appear to be reversed, with City suffering an alarming slump and are in danger of crashing out of the Champions League in the opening phase, while Villa's star continues to rise, overall, as they prepare to face the knock-out rounds. Young Brazilian winger Savinho is favoured over Grealish, and transfer interest from the Premier League and beyond is growing in the second most expensive English player of all-time.

Some fans would caution against putting on the rose-tinted glasses and going in for a return move for Grealish - for differing reasons. Reader Mchadley says: "I would have him back, but highly unlikely considering the fee City would want, and his wages, and his age. Only Saudi clubs could be stupid enough to pay those."

FreddieLochhead agrees: "Nah, it's not going to happen. Wages are too much of a problem, and even then only once his contract expires. Look for more players like [Morgan] Rogers and [Youri] Tielemans."

Commenter R10 says: "He left to win trophies, get European football and play in the "bigger games". He's achieved that and now getting less game-time. As such, it'd be easy for him to say that he's interested in coming back to his boyhood club now there's been some European football and big game success.

"However, I think the club have outgrown him and it'd be more of a setback than a gain. Not sure he'd fit in to the team and not even sure the manager would want him."

Chosen in 1957 writes: "Let's face the real facts and Jack is not the player he was when he packed his bags. It's no good trying to relive the magnificent talent he showed previously - because he's coming up to 30-years-old with a reduced talent and self-confidence."

Mgb6974 says: "Yeah, but, no. At 29-years-old and not able to make a dent in the City set-up over these last four years, who's he going to dislodge in our ever-evolving Villa side?"

Leighjswinn warns: "Never return to the firework, especially once it seems to have fizzled out."
