Jack Walker is looking forward to the future after a 'here, there, and everywhere' year at Hull FC. The 25-year-old has signed a rolling-month contract with Sheffield Eagles, having left the Black and Whites alongside Liam Tindall and Morgan Smith, laterally who has also joined the Eagles, last November.

On the lookout for a club ever since, Walker, who scored seven tries in 20 appearances for Hull, has been training on his own this pre-season but has now put pen to paper on a deal with the Championship club, who finished 7th in the Championship last year and are now coached by former Castleford Tigers boss Craig Lingard.

That deal was one of two options for Walker, who also spoke to another unnamed club, believed to be Midlands Hurricanes, about a move. However, it's the Eagles that have proved to be the best fit for the full-back, who has second-tier experience already with Bradford Bulls.

Speaking on his move to South Yorkshire, Walker told the club's media channels: "I met with Craig and went for a coffee, and he’s just a really good guy. I’m looking forward to just putting my best foot forward.

"It was a bit different with coaches at Hull last year; it was a bit here, there, and everywhere, so I’m looking forward to working with a coach that is going to stay. I spoke with Craig, and I love the way he wants to play. It suits my game and what I’m about, playing a little bit off the cuff, so I’m really looking forward to it."

He continued: "It’s been a rough twelve weeks training by myself with no club and not knowing what is happening. I probably heard a couple of weeks ago; Craig just let me know. It was this and another club, but Sheffield are a top-four team, and why wouldn’t I want to go and compete? So yeah, I’m looking forward to it. I came down and trained on Wednesday, and all the boys are sound."

Meanwhile, Sheffield face Bradford-based West Bowling in the Challenge Cup this weekend for the right to host Wigan Warriors in the third round, with Walker outlining his mentality for the year ahead.

"I just kind of take it as it comes, really going game by game," he added. "I didn’t play that many games when I was with Bradford so I’m just looking to get going and take it game by game. I always bring loads of energy and 100% no matter what. I’ve got that winning mindset. We’ve got a really good set of lads here, and everyone wants to compete."
