Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna says a deal to sign winger Jaden Philogene from Aston Villa is still not over the line.

Philogene was a summer target for Town before he instead moved back to former club Villa from Hull.

The England Under-21 international has remained on the Ipswich watchlist as he looks for more regular game time.

The 22-year-old was reported to have been at the Suffolk club this week as he closes in on a move, for a fee said to be worth around £22million.

McKenna, though, would not be drawn on how soon the transfer was likely to be completed as he prepares the squad for Sunday’s FA Cup third-round tie against Bristol Rovers at Portman Road.

“There is nothing to say, really,” McKenna told a press conference when pressed on the latest with Philogene.

“He is an Aston Villa player first and foremost and there is no deal or completion, as far as I am aware at the moment.

“Until that changes, or if that changes, I am sure the club will announce.”
