Former Huddersfield Town defender Jaheim Headley is eager to “settle down and focus” on his football upon completing his switch to Port Vale.

The wing-back departed the Terriers for the Valiants at the back end of last week, with the defender penning a two-and-a-half year deal with the League Two outfit.

Headley has joined a side who are fourth in their division, while the 23-year-old has linked up with former Terriers’ boss Darren Moore at Vale Park.

The wing-back made 13 appearances for Town in all competitions in the first half of the campaign. But he featured in League One just once since September, leaving the defender keen to get more game time under his belt.

“I’m delighted to get it over the line early in the window so I can just settle down and focus on playing my football,” Headley told his new club’s website.

“I’ve known about the interest for a while, but it just was one of the only ones that kind of stood out to me, so I thought I just want to get it over and done with as soon as possible, so I can just get down and focus on my football.

“The ambitions really of the club (appealed to him), and also coming back to work with Darren, who is a manager I know, and he knows what I can do. I’m looking forward to it a lot, I really can’t wait to get started.”

Headley made 54 appearances in total for the Terriers, with 16 of those being made during Moore’s time at the helm last term.

Moore expressed his excitement at being reunited with Headley. He told the club’s website: “Having worked with Jaheim throughout my time at Huddersfield Town, I am aware of the qualities that he will immediately bring to our squad. I am delighted to get the deal over the line so early on in the transfer window.

“Jaheim is a solid defender who possesses wonderful energy and quality on the ball and has plenty of experience for his age above League Two level. He is a player who is always looking to play on the front foot to drive the team forward, qualities which I’m sure will be appreciated by our supporters.

“I am really excited to welcome him to Vale Park and we all look forward to working closely with him to hopefully fulfil his obvious potential over the coming seasons.”
