Jake Connor kept in the dark by Brad Arthur following impressive Leeds Rhinos debut
Brad Arthur insists he will keep Jake Connor on his toes following an impressive performance on debut for Leeds Rhinos. One of the club's new recruits for 2025, Connor starred at fullback as he marked his first outing in Leeds colours with a brace of tries during the club's Boxing Day victory over Wakefield Trinity.
Since his arrival from Huddersfield Giants, there has been debate about where, or even if, Connor will make Leeds' matchday seventeen come the start of the season. But on this evidence, Arthur will have great difficulty keeping him out of the side as Connor was named man of the match following an eye-catching display.
He started at fullback and eventually moved into the halves, two of the positions he has been signed to compete for a spot in, as well as centre.

While his performance will attract headlines, Arthur's praise was more reserved as he expressed a desire to keep Connor focused heading towards the new season, adding that Lachie Miller is currently first choice fullback.
"He was good," Connor said. "He's done a few good things with the ball. He let a couple of kicks bounce early and missed his assignment on bits and pieces. But overall, he was good.
"He can play anywhere but I'm quite happy keeping him on his toes at the moment and now knowing what's going to happen. I want to keep that hunger in him and working hard. He wasn't brought here on any guarantees. He's done some good things today, no doubt, but at the moment, Lachie should be our starting fullback round one."
Connor took on goal-kicking duties during his time on the field, an early hint that he may be in line to take on the duty left unoccupied following Rhyse Martin's departure.
But Arthur said: "Jake was the obvious choice today because he was in the starting team. But there's Crofty and Lachie Miller, so we have plenty of time to work that out because I don't know what the starting team is going to be. We've got another trial match then the Challenge Cup the game before round one. There's good competition spots, it's healthy for the club."
