Evertonians have not stopped talking about James Garner's assist since Saturday. The man himself has since suggested it could be the best of his career.

The Blues hammered Leicester City 4-0 at Goodison Park on to ease their relegation fears, with goals from Abdoulaye Doucoure and Iliman Ndiaye sandwiching a brace from Beto.

Beto and Garner were brought back into the team after the injuries suffered by Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Orel Mangala at Brighton last weekend. Like the striker, Garner seized his opportunity with a brilliant all-action performance.

The highlight of his display was undoubtedly the pass to set up Beto's second, which carved open the Leicester defence and set the centre-forward through on goal. Speaking after the game, Garner admitted he was delighted with the moment.

"That's probably the best one I've made," he said of the assist, per Everton TV. "I turned forward and didn't have many options and I've got that type of pass in my locker. I've been speaking to Beto over the past few weeks and he keeps on telling me every time I get it pass to him pass to him so that's why he was made up with me.

"I think from minute one, well, the first 10 seconds, we showed our quality. We scored different types of goals. Ili's at the end was him pressing up high, mine was a nice pass through, Tarky's was a nice pass through. There's different goals that we scored today and we arguably should have scored more."

Garner's season has been ruined by injury so far, with a back problem keeping him out since October. His return has come at the perfect time for new manager David Moyes though, given the serious injury suffered by Mangala.

"I'm happy to finally get a start after such a long period out. A tough period, but I'm happy the way I played," he said of his fitness woes. "I maybe gassed out towards the end, but I've not played in four months, so that was going to happen. It was longer than I expected as well but you know it's needed minutes and hopefully I can get stronger and fitter each game."

"I'm desperate to put injuries behind me and try to kick-start my career here," Garnet added. "It's a bright future, not only for me but for the club. So I'm really looking forward to what is ahead. I think [retaining our Premier League status] is the aim again this season, then I think next season's where I think we'll definitely kick on – but you know it all starts from now."
