Liverpool may have been handed a boost in their reported interest in AFC Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez. The full-back has earned praise from former Liverpool man Jamie Carragher.

Kerkez has been one of the standout performers for Bournemouth so far this season. He already has a link to Anfield with Reds sporting director Richard Hughes having working with the Cherries when the defender arrived at the club last year.

Liverpool, along with Manchester United are said to be monitoring the player as the January transfer window picks up speed. Kerkez has also changed agency, only fuelling further speculation over where his future may lie.

There has now been another indication that a move could be on the cards. Various reports claim the Bournemouth have agreed a deal to sign Argentine left-back Julio Soler from Lanus for a fee of €15 million (£12.45m).

The player looks set to undergo a medical and then put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal at the Vitality Stadium. The transfer could potentially open the door for any move for Kerkez, with a ready-made replacement coming in for Bournemouth.

If Liverpool were to make a move for the Hungarian, it’s something that would please Carragher. Speaking on Monday Night Football earlier this season he highlighted Kerkez as someone who should be targeted by Liverpool.

“We’ve just spoken about Liverpool’s left-back situation and the fact Andy Robertson needs help,” he said. “Now listen, he’s been a revelation at Bournemouth, the only reason why I mention Liverpool is that fact that, yes they are probably looking for someone in that position, but also because the sporting director who brought him to Bournemouth is now the sporting director at Liverpool.

“He’s aggressive, he’s got pace. Even when you look at him he looks like a full-back, small, really aggressive and after wingers on that side. He’s been superb since he’s come into the Premier League for Bournemouth and it’s one to watch for the future whether he stays or leaves.”

Bournemouth are said to have placed an asking price of around £40 million on the defender. He has three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, putting the club in a strong position when it comes to selling the player.
