Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has criticised Trent Alexander-Arnold's representatives after news broke that the Reds had turned down an approach from La Liga giants Real Madrid.

The right-back's future at the club has been up in the air all season, with the England international in the final year of his contract at Anfield. The Spanish side have been repeatedly linked with Alexander-Arnold throughout his contract saga, with Liverpool hopeful of keeping the academy graduate at the club.

The 26-year-old will be free to hold talks with the Spanish club on New Year's Day, ahead of a free transfer in the summer. However, Liverpool are understood to have rejected an approach from Real Madrid to sign Alexander-Arnold in the upcoming January transfer window.

The ECHO understands Arne Slot's side have no interest in selling the right-back and are intent on seeing out the campaign with the defender in their ranks. Former defender Jamie Carragher has responded to the recent transfer talk on social media, criticising Alexander-Arnold's team.

Carragher posted on X: "The most important thing for @LFC in 2025 is winning the #PremierLeague. No one’s contract or future should come in the way of that!

"I love Trent as a lad & a player, but his team would’ve told Real Madrid to bid & also would’ve known LFC would turn it down. It’s to try & cover themselves when he leaves for free.

"Again it’s something the club and fans don’t need with a huge game coming up."

It's not the first time the former Reds' defender has been critical of one of Liverpool's soon-to-be out of contract stars, with Carragher taking aim at Mohammed Salah following his contract comments earlier this year.
