Alexander Isak has sent a timely message to Arsenal ahead of the summer transfer window after their disappointing defeat to West Ham United.

The Gunners may have to wait a few more months before they can conduct any transfer business, but it's likely to be very much on their minds. For the time being, though, Arsenal will be focused on the action on the pitch as they compete on two fronts.

Mikel Arteta's side may be battling for the Premier League title and the Champions League, but attention is already beginning to look ahead towards the transfer business in the summer. Isak is one player who has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks, although Liverpool, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have also been mentioned as potential destinations.

The Newcastle United striker was in action on Sunday afternoon for his club as they beat Nottingham Forest 4-3 at St James' Park. Isak scored twice in the Premier League clash on Tyneside, sending a timely reminder to Arsenal in the process.

The performance from Isak came less than 24 hours after the Gunners were beaten 1-0 by West Ham. Arteta has been forced to deal with several injury concerns throughout the season, particularly in the forward line.

Saturday saw Arteta start a front three of Ethan Nwaneri, Leandro Trossard and Mikel Merino, with the latter in a centre forward role as opposed to his favoured midfield position. Arsenal were without Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli for the defeat to the Hammers.

Sky Sports' coverage of Newcastle's win over Nottingham Forest saw Isak become a dominant talking point. Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge compared Isak to Manchester City No.9 Erling Haaland before kick-off.

"For me, I think he's probably the best all round [striker]," Sturridge told Sky Sports when comparing Isak and Haaland.

"I think Haaland is probably a better goal scorer but I think for me, all round, this is what he can do, manipulates the ball. He goes one vs one.

"He can score his own goals if he needs to, he can set his teammates up as well. I think all round the guy is a special football player and it'll be interesting to see if he stays there at the end of the season because I think there's going to be so many teams [interested.]"

Jamie Carragher was also in the studio for the debate about Isak, poking fun at the Gunners' for not signing the striker in the recent January transfer window.

"I thought he was going to sign for Arsenal?" Carragher said in response to Sturridge's comments.

Isak is not the only striker to be linked with Arsenal in recent weeks. The Sweden international is joined by the likes of Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Sesko, Viktor Gyokeres and Moise Kean in reportedly being transfer targets for the Gunners.
