With Robert Sanchez dropped by Enzo Maresca for Chelsea's Monday night clash with West Ham, pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville agree the goalkeeper has 'used up his credits'.

Maresca had hinted that there was a choice to be made of who will start in net following Sanchez's recent mistakes in matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City.

When the time came to announce the starting line-up vs the Hammers at Stamford Bridge, it was confirmed the Spaniard had been dropped in the Premier League for only the third time this season.

"It is always a hard decision to leave out players, especially in this case the 'keeper. It is not an easy one. I said in the week the good thing is we have two good 'keepers and we make the decision to change. We are happy with that," the Blues boss told Sky Sports.

Also asked if Sanchez had accepted this, Maresca added: "I spoke with him, he has tried to help [Filip]. Everything is fine."

Chelsea coaches were under pressure to act following a string of winless results with plenty of goals conceded.

There was once a time they were second in the table, now they sit sixth with one win in seven outings. Sanchez started all but one of those and allowed nine strikes to go past.

And even before the team was announced tonight, Sky Sports' Carragher and Neville felt this would be the correct decision.

The former Liverpool defender commented: "He’s not good enough to play for them, that’s the bottom line. Those results where you need a goalkeeper to keep you in it, that’s where they’re still lacking."

Ex-Man United captain Neville then added: "The goalkeeper's in trouble, he's used up all his credits. You have to be consistent and reliable, you can’t make mistakes. Obviously they do but they have to be rare."
