Jamie Carragher makes bold Mohamed Salah statement in new Steven Gerrard comparison
Jamie Carragher has claimed Mohamed Salah could go down as one of Liverpool’s all-time top three greatest players, if he can lead the club to another Premier League title this season.
The forward has been in sublime form, prompting talk of a Ballon d’Or nomination, while Carragher also claimed he is enjoying one of the greatest individual seasons in Premier League history.
Salah has scored 17 and provided 13 assists from 18 Premier League matches in 2024/25 with another six goal contributions in six Champions League games. They are staggering numbers and, should he maintain them throughout the entire campaign, Carragher feels Salah will rival Steven Gerrard and Sir Kenny Dalglish as candidates Liverpool’s all-time best player.

Jamie Carragher makes Mohamed Salah prediction after Liverpool contract comments slammed
“A few weeks ago I said he is in the top five players to ever play for Liverpool. I think if he takes Liverpool to a title and ends up with the Premier League, PFA [Player of the Year Award], which if he wins it, will be the third time he has won it, which has never happened before. No-one has ever done that before,” the ex-defender said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
“If he does that, he’s not in the top five, it’s basically a fight between him, Kenny Dalglish and Steven Gerrard to see who is Liverpool’s greatest-ever player.
“If he can add that to what he’s already done at Liverpool, he leaves an Ian Rush or Graeme Souness behind and joins those two who most Liverpool fans debate and argue about as the greatest player to ever play for Liverpool.”
Salah seems to be setting new records on a game-by-game basis at the moment. In Sunday’s 5-0 win over West Ham United, he recorded a goal and assist for an eighth time in a Premier League match this season - a record in the division.
Liverpool’s no.11 also scored his 100th home Premier League goal in the Boxing Day victory over Leicester City and moved up to fourth in Liverpool’s all-time top scorers list with a brace at Tottenham Hotspur before Christmas. He will likely finish the season in third place given Salah is 10 short of Gordon Hodgson’s record of 241.
