Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says only injuries can stop Arne Slot from winning the Premier League title in his first season in charge. The Reds are currently six points clear of Arsenal and have a game in hand.

"It is between Liverpool and Arsenal," Carragher wrote in his latest Daily Telegraph column. "Enzo Maresca has done an excellent job at Chelsea this season. I was not sure when the club opted not to keep Mauricio Pochettino last summer, but they appointed a coach with a specific profile and Maresca has brought the squad together.

"Having said that, I agree with him that Chelsea are not quite ready to become champions. They will need another goalkeeper and center-half before they can go the distance."

Arsenal is the closest to Liverpool at the moment but has just received the news that Bukayo Saka is set to be missing for at least a couple of months. The Gunners don't have the same attacking firepower that the Reds can call upon.

"Arsenal’s biggest problem right now is their injuries," Carragher continued. "They managed to avoid too much disruption in the last two years but their squad has been stretched this time.

"Mikel Arteta will find the answers to ensure the team improves in the second half of the season, and they have built valuable experience of a run-in. If they can get to March still close, they will believe.

"But I am speaking with my head and heart when saying Liverpool will pip them to first place. Arne Slot’s attacking options are the strongest in the Premier League. My only worry for Liverpool is if they pick up injuries to their big players.

"If they can avoid them, they will be difficult to catch. Chelsea will finish third, and despite their issues, I see Manchester City finishing in the last Champions League spot."

Liverpool.com says: It is hard to argue with any of that. Saying it aloud for Reds fans can seem scary but Liverpool is right in the driving seat for winning the Premier League title. From here, it is the overwhelming favorite.
