Jamie Carragher believes Arsenal’s current attacking options are not enough for them to overtake Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title.

The Reds sit six points ahead of the Gunners after the weekend, having beaten Brentford 2-0 thanks to Darwin Nunez’s late double, while Mikel Arteta’s side squandered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Aston Villa.

There are still plenty of games for Arsenal to make up the deficit, although Liverpool does hold a game in hand still, which could see them further the gap. Arne Slot’s side is therefore the favorite to be crowned champions this season, although the next few weeks could prove crucial.

While analyzing Arsenal’s draw with Villa on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher clashed with former Gunner Emmanuel Petit as the pair gave their verdicts on whether Arteta’s side could catch Liverpool in the title race.

“We did it in 1998,” Petit said. “We have seen it this season with Manchester City and Chelsea and things can change so quickly in the Premier League.

“Jamie said to me that with the strikers Arsenal has, you cannot win the Premier League. But I disagree. Arsenal is not far away from Liverpool in terms of scoring goals. They are almost the same defensively too so the difference is not that big.

"Consistency in performance is the most important thing in the Premier League. Liverpool has to deal with so many competitions. Arsenal's injured players will be back soon and it is out of both cup competitions, so it can focus on the Premier League and Champions League.

"There are so many reasons [that the title race isn't over]. Liverpool is not performing that well the last few weeks and has been conceding goals. You are too confident, Jamie!”

In response, Carragher said: “I will give you three reasons why Arsenal won't win the league. You had Overmars, Bergkamp and Anelka. This team at the moment is playing with Trossard, Martinelli and Havertz. That is not enough.”

Liverpool.com says: Arsenal’s attack does look a little threadbare without Bukayo Saka, and there’s little doubt that they need a new and much more prolific striker to lead the line. Liverpool has been a little shaky recently though, and there is still a long way to go before anyone is crowned as champions, so the Gunners certainly can’t be ruled out just yet, although they could quickly drop out of contention if they don’t improve quickly.
