Jamie Carragher raises concern over Liverpool star 'not playing well enough' under Arne Slot
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has raised concerns over the form of Darwin Nunez as he declared that the forward is simply "not playing well enough" under Arne Slot.
The Uruguayan striker has struggled for goals so far this season, having notched just four strikes in 24 appearances in all competitions since the beginning of the campaign. The 25-year-old has not found game time hard to come by, initially having led the line for the Merseysiders in the absence of Diogo Jota after he was ruled out through injury in October.
However, it would appear that the former Benfica attacker has now seemingly fallen behind winger Luis Diaz in the center forward pecking order after he was benched for the trip to face Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend. Furthermore, Jota has also returned from the sidelines in recent weeks - with Nunez potentially the Reds' third-choice option in the position.

Nunez's last start in the Premier League came as he drew a blank in the 2-2 draw away at Newcastle in early December. Handed a place in the first XI in midweek in the EFL Cup quarter-final against Southampton, the striker was able to get on the scoresheet in a 2-1 win.
However, his showing was not enough to earn him a start against Spurs, as he had to settle for a three-minute cameo appearance in North London. In a further blow to his chances of displacing Diaz from the side, the Colombian also demonstrated his credentials in his newfound role as the Reds' frontman with a brace in what was a Man of the Match display.
Now, Anfield hero Carragher has predicted that Nunez will find it difficult to work his way back into the team amid the sparkling form of Diaz and the return of Jota from injury. Speaking on Sky Sports, he asserted: "Darwin Nunez is not playing well enough. He scored in midweek but it wasn’t a great performance. Slot is just getting his best attackers back.
"In the past, it would have been [Cody] Gakpo under Jurgen Klopp playing through the middle. But Gakpo is always on the left and Luis Diaz has been a revelation in that false nine, centre-forward position. But they have now got Jota back, so I think in two weeks it will be him at the top end of the pitch."
Speaking earlier this month, Reds boss Slot defended Nunez, as he praised the misfiring striker for his work rate despite his lack of goals. He said: "For me he has impact. If you only look at goals, he hasn't scored the amount of goals he wants to score, or we want our No. 9 to score but he does have impact in his work rate.
"He's part of a team that is scoring a lot of goals and is winning a lot. But of course, as a No. 9 you want to score goals and that's definitely what he wants as well. I'm not only judging Mo [Salah] on his goals. I'm not only judging Darwin on his goals. I'm judging them on their work rate and what they bring to the team and that has been positive until now."
