Jamie Carragher response speaks volumes after Gary Neville Man United manager claim
Jamie Carragher couldn't help but laugh after Gary Neville was backed to replace Ruben Amorim and become the next Manchester United manager.
United have endured another difficult season and are on course for their worst-ever Premier League finish. They sit 13th right now, having collected just 26 points from their 22 matches. While United are set to gain automatic qualification for the Europa League last 16 and have booked their place in the FA Cup fourth round, they crashed out of the Carabao Cup against Tottenham in the quarter-final.
There was hope that Ruben Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag as their next permanent head coach in November, could turn the screw but he has been unable to help string together consistent performances and victories so far. The Portuguese has won just six of his 16 matches in charge.

Although United beat Rangers 2-1 on Thursday to restore some feel-good factor around Old Trafford, Amorim has been tipped to leave the club. In a sensational claim, legendary former presenter Des Lynam believes that former right-back Neville is the only man that can turn around fortunes at United.
"Neville would still be the best man for the job," he wrote in The Telegraph. "He has Manchester United blood running through his veins. He is deeply hurt by the club’s present predicament.
"He has a powerful personality and would be a strong presence in the dressing room. Oh and the money men had better watch out, Neville is an astute business man.
"My plea to him was over three years ago but as the men with their furrowed brows took their temporary residence in the United dugout, Neville has remained the best candidate, in my mind."
Lynam appeared unfazed at Neville's track record. The 49-year-old has had one senior managerial role and that came in Spain with Valencia - where he was sacked after just four months.
In response to Lynam's claim that Neville should become the next United manager, Carragher provided a hilarious response. He retweeted The Telegraph's article on X, formerly known as Twitter, and simply posted seven laughing face emojis. The tweet received over 800,000 views within the first four hours.
As for United, Amorim's men are next in action when they make the trip down to Fulham on Sunday night. It's a game that United need to win if they want to climb back up the table. They sit 14 points behind the Champions League places at the moment, and 11 adrift of the European spots.
