Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has warned the Reds' supporters and players not to underestimate Manchester United despite their struggles this season. Ruben Amorim's side currently find themselves languishing in mid-table and are closer to the bottom of the table Southampton than they are to Arne Slot's men.

The Premier League leaders watched on as Arsenal dropped points at Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, and, as such, a win against United would move them eight points clear at the top. Liverpool find themselves as heavy favourites for the match, but Carragher has warned his old club that they can't come into the match expecting to cruise to victory.

Speaking on Sky Sports pre-match, Carragher said: "I don't think it will be complacency, I think if you go back to this game last season, there was a lot of talk going into it about how many goals Liverpool were going to score and beat Man United by, and I think the game finished 0-0 here last season. Even speaking to a couple of people before the game, they are asking me what the score will be, and I actually said I think Liverpool will win 2-0, and they think: 'Is that all you think it will be?'

"And that is my fear, that people are coming to this game and just thinking this is going to be a cricket score to Liverpool because they have watched United play really poorly against Newcastle, and United will not be as poor as that, I don't think. And also that midfield will not be the same as we saw either on Monday night.

"I think on the back of the result for Arsenal, Liverpool have just got to make sure they win this game and not sort of have this feeling as players and supporters coming into this game about how many are we going to beat United by because you actually look at the results last season and United put a huge dent in Liverpool's title hopes and, certainly, FA Cup hopes. That's the biggest problem for Liverpool today: make sure that doesn't happen and just win the game."
