Ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher took his chance to mock former rival Gary Neville following Manchester United's 3-1 defeat to Brighton.

Ruben Amorim's introduction at Old Trafford has been a difficult one. In the Premier League, it is now just three wins from 11 games, which includes six defeats.

The loss at Brighton was yet another poor performance in front of the Old Trafford faithful. Highlighted by errors from goalkeeper Andre Onana, it was a quick return to reality after their FA Cup victory over Arsenal just one week ago.

As with all football rivalries, when one team is going through a difficult time, the other side will find little sympathy. That was clearly apparent in what former Liverpool player Carragher did after the United defeat.

The 46-year-old Liverpudlian retweeted a clip from the Overlap where, after United's FA Cup victory over the Gunners, Gary Neville asks the question: "Are Manchester United back?" In the clip, the question is very quickly followed by mocking laughter - this included Neville's own.

After more than 30 seconds of joking around, Jill Scott did begin to give United credit by saying: "Do you know what I like about them; they look like they've got a bit of attitude.

"I like that [Matthijs] de Ligt. I think he looks like he is going to put his body on the line."

Roy Keane continued: "A lot of these players who are still new to the club, you need a few days like that for the players to get a feel for if we do win a few big games, this is the buzz.

"Listen, United obviously had a good following down there - United fans get criticised a lot. They travelled in numbers, they enjoyed it. And for the penalty shootout to be in front of the United fans I thought the feel good factor them players must get for it you go, 'you get more of this if you get some wins,' and these fans will back you.'"

Unfortunately, just seven days later, Amorim's men would be held to another Premier League defeat at Old Trafford. The momentum that was hoped to be carried through from Arsenal had failed to show.
