Chelsea could hold a trump card when it comes to the potential addition of Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund. The 20-year-old is a player the Blues are keen on as they look to add to Enzo Maresca's options on the left-wing heading into the second half of the season.

football.london understands Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho of Manchester United have been identified as players of interest to Chelsea in their search for a new left-winger. The duo are not the only players on Chelsea's radar, though, as numerous left-wingers have been spoken about internally.

When it comes to Gittens, who Dortmund are believed to value at €100million (£84.5m), current Chelsea loanee Jadon Sancho could prove key if the west London club are to launch a move for the Dortmund ace. The Bundesliga side will have quite a task on their hands trying to keep hold of the Reading-born player if he continues to go from strength to strength following a fine campaign in Germany.

Gittens has 11 goals and five assists to his name in 26 appearances this season, including two in his last three Bundesliga outings. Drawing comparisons with Sancho after making the move from Manchester City to Dortmund and also playing from the left-wing, the pair are in fact friends and former teammates following the player's return to Germany last season.

Just not quite happening for him at Manchester United, Sancho headed back to former club Dortmund on loan for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign. A player Gittens could both compete with and learn from, Sancho proved to be quite a key figure in his development.

"I've learned a lot from Jadon," said the winger, as reported by German publication WAZ. "For example, that I have to play with one or two touches more often, that I have to offer deeper runs more often. And when he plays, he enjoys himself. I've learned that too. Jadon is a friend."

In a further interview with the Bundesliga's official website, Gittens outlined exactly what he picked up from the 24-year-old. He said: “A lot of things. The way he combines with players, lots of one-twos. Combination play. Off-the-ball movements. When to dribble, when to pass. His vision for a pass. Lots of things that I’ve learnt in six months from him, because he’s a top player."

Although Sancho is only a temporary Chelsea player for now after joining the Blues on loan from Manchester United, he may still prove a decisive figure if the Blues are to make their move for Gittens in the January transfer market. Already bringing some very exciting players to Stamford Bridge over the past few transfer windows, Chelsea may have a secret weapon at their disposal when it comes to possibly enticing Gittens back to England.
