Chelsea are interested in Borussia Dortmund ace Jamie Gittens as they plan for the years ahead under Enzo Maresca. Now halfway through the January transfer window, football.london understands the west London club are looking at signing a new left-winger, with Gittens and Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho both identified as players of interest.

However, they are two of numerous left-wingers being spoken about internally. Both Gittens and Garnacho are very exciting players and the possible addition of one of the duo prior to the transfer deadline would give Chelsea a big boost heading into the remainder of the season.

Gittens is currently making waves out in Germany for Dortmund and he has duly hit the headlines this term due to his outstanding form. The England Under-21 ace currently has 11 goals and five assists to his name from 26 appearances in all competitions, with four of those goals coming in the Champions League.

Spending time with Reading and Chelsea as a youngster before selecting the Royals at Under-9 level, the attacker joined Manchester City in 2018. He would only be with the reigning Premier League champions for two years, though, as he made the move to Germany to link up with Borussia Dortmund.

Intent on following in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham, the 20-year-old is now an established starter for the Bundesliga giants after finding himself in and out of the team last campaign. Gittens is currently flourishing under Nuri Sahin and it probably won't be long until he gets a big-money move elsewhere.

So what exactly have those who have worked with the player said about him? football.london takes a look below.

Sahin on Gittens taking the next step

"Jamie wants to take the next step. We want him to take the next step," said the head coach in an interview with Dortmund's official website. "The fact that he is unbelievable in one-on-ones and has a very good finish is not new to me. If he has now acquired a taste for scoring goals, then he'll be hard to stop. He's very welcome to do that from the beginning."

Sahin on Gittens' two goals off the bench vs Eintracht Frankfurt

"I'm incredibly happy for Jamie," Sahin said. "That [dribble preceding the first goal] was a great individual move. Jamie has lofty aspirations. We have high expectations for him. I've had many conversations with him. He's told us during training camp that he wishes to develop and define himself through goals and assists.

"The scenes [today] are the best testament to his development. Without any detours, he's on his way up. That's what I expect from my players, particularly off the bench. All five came in with extra fire. All five helped."

Niklas Sule on Gittens' potential

"I think he's now coming to realise the potential he has in him," he told Dortmund's official website. "I think he has qualities that offer us so much as a team. And I'm so happy for the boy, as he's a really down-to-earth guy, who works very hard and has a good mindset."

Karl Heinze-Riedle on Gittens becoming the next Sancho, Haaland or Bellingham

“Jamie is still not 100 per cent what we expect from a world-class player — but he has all the talent to become one of those," said the ex-Germany striker, as reported by The Sun. "He can become the next Sancho, Erling Haaland or Bellingham.

“He is very quick, very good in a one-against-one situation and with the ability to finish as well. I see a young player who has the full package, plus he is someone who I see working on how to make himself better.

“And that comes from games — the more you play, the more you learn, the better your decision-making and better you become. The most important thing is you have to be quick, to not be afraid of going one- on-one against a defender. That’s what we want to see.

“It was why Sancho and Haaland brought people to the stadium. Fans wanted to see them do that and it’s there with Jamie as well.”

Niclas Fullkrug on playing alongside Gittens

"He still has a bit of room for improvement in his decision-making, but he is doing really well. He is always a threat to the opposition," said the West Ham striker in an interview with Amazon Prime Video.

"We know when he gets the ball and has a one-on-one that we don't need to offer him support. We let him play his game and create space for him. It's worth its weight in gold to have a player like him in the team. We're happy about that and hope that he continues like this."

Karim Adeyemi on Gittens' one-vs-one ability

"He has no fear," the Dortmund man told Sky Sports. "For me, he is one of the best players one-against-one I have ever seen, to be honest. He will be a really good player."
