Jamie Vardy, Wout Faes – Leicester City injury update ahead of Manchester City clash
Jamie Vardy is fighting to be fit to face Manchester City on Sunday after Ruud van Nistelrooy opted not to risk the Leicester City captain against Liverpool.
Vardy was missing for just the second time this season on Boxing Day after taking knocks over the previous few games. In his absence, Patson Daka made his first start of the season up front while Conor Coady was named captain.
But Vardy should be fine to take back the armband and his position at the top of the pitch on Sunday, when struggling Man City come to the King Power Stadium. City boss Van Nistelrooy is hopeful over the number nine.

“Jamie had a small injury, a couple of knocks over the last week,” the manager said after the defeat to Liverpool. “He wasn’t totally fit for today so we gave him some time to recover. Hopefully he can make it for Sunday. He has a good chance.”
There was one fresh injury concern for City though, with Wout Faes left out of the squad at Anfield. He picked up an injury in the defeat to Wolves and is a big doubt to face Man City.
Van Nistelrooy added: “That’s an injury as well. He came on at half-time against Wolves and picked up an injury there. He’s doubtful, very doubtful for Sunday.”
That means Faes is likely to be one of six senior City players on the sidelines for the final game of 2024. Mads Hermansen, Ricardo Pereira, Wilfred Ndidi, Abdul Fatawu, and Kasey McAteer will also miss out.
