Jared Waerea-Hargreaves playing stance given as Hull KR wait on RFL call
Willie Peters has confirmed that Jared Waerea-Hargreaves will make his Hull KR debut in the Challenge Cup this Friday night and has insisted that the 36-year-old doesn't need to change.
The Robins head to LNER Stadium to take on York Knights in a rematch of the Amsterdam Challenge, albeit with a much stronger squad. Peters, meanwhile, will play the former New Zealand international against the Championship opponent, with the Rovers boss delighted with the way the player, who has around a dozen bans on his NRL career totalling over 25 games, has conducted himself so far.
Speaking to All Out Rugby League, Peters said, "Jared will be playing this week. There's no doubt about that. We're looking forward to seeing how he goes. He's ready to go. He's had a very strong pre-season, and he's trained hard. He's ready to play again.

"It's huge (his signing). He's got an aura about him, he's got presence, and he's a player that makes others around him better. He's lifted the standards at training, the intensity of training, and he leads the way. That's what he's about."
Peters continued, "You don't want Jared to change. You always want players to play as who they are. You want to have discipline within that, and Jared knows that; he's aware of that, and as a game, it's tough and it's aggressive, but you've got to stay within the rules.
"We know that. They were trigger-happy with certain suspensions and red cards last year, and I'm talking not just about Jared here, but across the game—if something is illegal and against the rules, then we're going to get pinged for it. We accept that."
In the meantime, Hull KR are hoping to get clarity on the Rugby Football League's new disciplinary system—with players receiving penalty points over bans until they meet a certain points threshold. It's hoped that all players will start the year with clean records, a process that, as it stands, sees Eribe Dobo suspended after going over the points threshold needed to activate a suspension. Unless that system changes, the prop will be suspended for two games with his points from last year carrying over.
Asked if common sense should prevail, Peters added, "Absolutely. It should be started again. You can't have a carryover from points last year. That's been and gone. We need to have a clean slate, and hopefully that's how it's going to be.
"We're hoping to have a conversation with them and get a bit of clarity around it. I'm pretty sure they will wipe it clear. It's the most obvious choice."
