Jebbison social media antics anger many Watford fans
On-loan striker Daniel Jebbison made two Instagram posts in the aftermath of Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United - appearing to 'like' the scoreline and celebrate with one of their scorers - which angered a large section of Watford fans.
The 21-year-old England Under-20 international joined the Hornets in a season-long loan move from Bournemouth in August.
However, prior to that he had spent six years with the Blades, coming through their Academy and making 35 appearances for them before moving to Bournemouth at the end of last season.
Jebbison, who was not selected as part of Watford’s 20-man matchday squad for Saturday’s game, initially ‘liked’ an image on Sheffield United’s official account which contained the final score and was captioned ‘Super Bladesmen’.
A little later Andre Brooks, who scored United’s winning goal, posted a picture of himself doing so and underneath Jebbison commented “My brudda!”
Jebbison and Brooks, who are the same age, were teammates in Sheffield United’s youth teams.
Both Jebbison’s Instagram posts were deleted later in the evening, and he has since appeared to have removed all traces of Watford from his account.
“We are still paying Jebbison’s wages and he’s out here celebrating the Sheffield United win” posted one angry Watford fan, “It’s disgraceful, I don’t care if he played for them” said another while “Get Jebbison gone” was a further reaction.
However, other Hornets fans were more forgiving.
“Might be in a minority of one but really don’t care what Jebbison likes on social media” commented one while another supporter said “I really don’t see the issue with Jebbison’s Instagram comment”.
This comes only a few days after Hull City went to great lengths to publicly admonish one of their players, Abu Kamara, for something he posted on Instagram.
The 21-year-old was partly at fault for the goal that saw Middlesbrough beat Hull on New Year’s Day, and shortly after he posted a heart and teardrop emojis on an Instagram post made by his friend and former teammate Paddy Lane – who had scored in Portsmouth’s 4-0 win over Swansea on the same day.
However, with Pompey being a direct rival to Hull in the relegation scrap, some Tigers fans were incensed that Kamara was apparently enjoying the success of an opponent.
A couple of days later, Kamara was sat next to his manager Ruben Selles as the club decided a public apology in a rather bizarre press conference was the best way to deal with the matter.
"I'd say first of all, it was a mistake, and I probably shouldn't have done that, but I just wanted to express my feelings on how happy I was for him to score his first Championship goal,” Kamara told a somewhat surprised group of media.

“But it was the wrong timing, and it sparked a bit of an outroar, so I apologise for my actions."
Jebbison has had a pretty torrid time since joining Watford, and has made only 14 league and cup appearances – just four of them as a starter.
He has played little more than seven hours of football for the Hornets, and has not scored or assisted in any goals.
His last action came in the 2-1 home defeat against Cardiff on December 29, when he came on as substitute in the 58th minute and proceeded to miss a glorious chance to equalise in front of the Rookery End.
He was an unused substitute at QPR on New Year’s Day, and wasn’t even on the bench for the game with the Blades on Saturday.
Tom Cleverley has shown great support and understanding towards Jebbison, stressing that he would help him “technically and mentally” to try and help him regain confidence.
The Watford head coach has also made it clear that the loan move is intended to last for the entire season.
Having played twice for Bournemouth in the Premier League before moving to Watford on loan, Jebbison has made appearances for two clubs this season which would preclude him from playing for anybody else.
Therefore, the only options open to him are to stay with Watford or return to Bournemouth.
With the Hornets likely to rotate players for the FA Cup tie at Fulham on Thursday, there is every chance Jebbison could return to the team.
