Arsenal supporters will be hoping to see a new forward arrive at the club before the January transfer window closes on Monday.

We have had almost a month of the transfer window now and still the Gunners remain light up top. Injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus have not helped matters, with a new forward signing seen as key to maintaining their Premier League title tilt.

A number of players have been linked this month, with many of the names drifting over from the summer transfer window too. The likes of Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres have been talked about once again.

But there have been some new names to enter the fray and it is perhaps those new names that are most likely when it comes to Arsenal completing a deal before the window shuts.

Jhon Duran has emerged as a potential signing, with Aston Villa keen on signing Joao Felix from Chelsea. Evan Ferguson is understood to be free to leave Brighton, while Mathys Tel has reportedly decided to leave Bayern Munich, having initially looked like staying, despite Premier League interest.

So who should the Gunners sign? We asked our football.london writers to have their say.

He will not come cheap, but if there is the opportunity for Arsenal to complete a deal for Jhon Duran, they should take it. The Aston Villa striker has proved himself in the Premier League, despite his limited chances under Unai emery.

The 21-year-old has had to bide his time, with Ollie Watkins in front of him, but whenever he has been called upon, he has stepped up to the plate.

In the season-and-a-half he has been part of the first team squad at Villa Park - we're discounting the 126 minutes he played in the 2022/23 season - Duran averages a goal every 90.6 minutes.

Evan Ferguson would be a signing for the future, but would likely cost just as much, if not more than Duran to sign, given his potential. And Duran is already proving it at the very highest level.

Mathys Tel would be something of a gamble, given he has never played in the Premier League, but he too has time on his side to flourish. Duran is the one Arsenal should go all out to sign though.

Given Arsenal's need for a new striker before the January transfer market closes for business, Mikel Arteta's side should be all over Jhon Duran. The Aston Villa frontman appears on course to exit Villa Park over the coming days with a move to Al-Nassr in the pipeline.

Duran has enjoyed a remarkable season after netting 12 goals but the regular starts he wants are not coming his way under Unai Emery. The Colombian would certainly have more opportunities to start at Arsenal and he would undoubtedly increase his goal tally given the chances the Gunners create.

Capable of scoring different types of goals and a handful for defenders, Duran could give Arsenal a huge boost going into the run-in if they were to strike a deal with Villa for his services. However, the Midlands club could possibly demand more money if they were to sell to a fellow Premier League team rather than Al-Nassr.

Arsenal need a striker. Either in January or the summer. With Gabriel Jesus out with a serious knee injury, Kai Havertz is currently the only senior frontman and considering the German was initially played as a midfielder by Mikel Arteta, that to me is a concern.

I really like Jhon Duran but the price is, quite frankly, ridiculous. But that's the market and if Aston Villa are demanding £80million for the 21-year-old, then interested clubs need to accept that. I believe the Columbian will leave Villa and I can see him going to one of Arsenal or Chelsea.

With 12 goals in 29 appearances this season, his stats make for impressive reading, especially when most of those appearances have come from the bench. Unlike some other names mentioned, Duran does have Premier League experience and could hit the ground running in an Arsenal shirt, if he does make the move to north London in January.

My only concern is Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko. The Gunners have been heavily linked with both and Isak would be my preferred choice. Sesko is perhaps the cheaper of the three strikers mentioned and then there is Viktor Gyokeres. Arsenal will probably sign one of these four in the summer if not in January - they just need to decide what one they go for.
