Jo Potter responds to Rangers and Celtic move to England speculation – 'Who knows?'
Upbeat Rangers Women boss Jo Potter kept her lips sealed over rumoured talks to take the Old Firm sides down south.
Reports emerged earlier this week that the Glasgow giants were in talks to swap the SWPL in Scotland to the Women’s Super League in England as part of the lucrative expansion. The Times reported that Gers have held informal discussions with the FA over joining last year and that these have continued with the Women’s Professional Leagues Limited (WPLL), the company that took ownership of the WSL and Women’s Championship in August.
The report added that the Hoops feel further investment is required in Scottish football to compete with the top sides in Europe. Celtic are reigning Scottish Champions but fell to bottom of their Champions League group behind Chelsea, Real Madrid and FC Twente.

Speaking head of their clash with Celtic Women on Sunday in the SWPL Cup semi-finals at New Douglas Park on Sunday, Potter was asked about her thoughts on the reported negotiations. She said: "No, not really. That's not my focus. That's not something that I've been speaking about this week. I've got full focus on Celtic this week and in a big game for us, so that's where all my focus is really.
"I feel like the setup at Rangers is perfect for what we're doing because that's where we are right now. As I say, I'm not too sure what will happen in the near future or if anything does happen, but that's definitely not where my concentration is right now."
When asked if moving to England would help Rangers compete at a higher level she was keeping the cards close to her chest. She replied: "Who knows? What we're going to concentrate on is the game on this Sunday."
Turning her attention to the Old Firm clash she said: "These games hold their own entity because of the rivalry, which is great, which is brilliant, but we do know that those games look very different each time you play each other. Both teams can dominate and not always the best team can dominate.
"There's something different about these games, but every time you step out and beat your opponents and beat them well, it's got to give you confidence. We took confidence from our game in the weekend, which was a really, really nice goal, some good play, and that's built into our week this week. So, any moment that I can give confidence to my players and hopefully they take some, they're the best."
