Northampton boss Kevin Nolan is looking forward to returning to Wanderers but insists he is fully focused on the task at hand.

Nolan was a fan favourite at Bolton under Sam Allardyce, captaining the side in the Premier League.

The 42-year-old admits it will be “special” to be back at his old stomping ground, but his priority is making sure the Cobblers build on a positive display against Wycombe.

“I had nine-and-a-half fantastic years as a professional there and probably four years before that,” he told the club channels.

“Sharon (Brittan) and the board there have done a fantastic job. It was sad to see Ian (Evatt) go last week because they have done great – from where they were when they walked into the club.

“What they have done behind the scenes, with the training ground, the ground and everything else has been brilliant.

“I wish them well but I have got a job to do. I will be going there wanting to win, there will be no sentiments from me on Tuesday.”

Northampton drew 0-0 at Adams Park over the weekend and were unfortunate not to win after Aaron McGowan had a goal controversially ruled out.

Nolan, who has taken six points from his opening six games in the hot seat, felt there was a lot to like about the performance against the Chairboys.

“I think we have gone up another notch in our performance,” he added. “Out of possession, I thought we were excellent and then in possession, we got better.

“Terry Taylor had a fantastic game on his debut, really slotted in well next to Liam Shaw. But I still feel we can get better in possession. Loads of positives. The back three were great, as they have been, and the two lads out wide.

“We were looking at it, how to stem that flow (of Wycombe goals). I have got confidence in these boys and I said to them that is the mentality I want, these are the performances I expect.

“It is not about resting on this performance. Now, we are looking forward to Bolton on Tuesday.

“A great stadium, good pitch. Hopefully, we can go there and give a good account of ourselves again.

“If we can keep doing that and keep matching these lads who have been doing it week in, week out, it will get us going in the right direction and where I want to be going.”
