Hull City manager Ruben Selles says he will have a conversation with Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt about potentially extending his stay at the Tigers in the summer, depending how his loan spell develops.

This week, Gelhardt secured a switch to Hull for the rest of the season, having largely been frozen out of Daniel Farke’s plans at Elland Road. The 22-year-old has not played since October 1, having barely enjoyed 10 minutes in the Championship this season.

Manager Selles could hand Gelhardt his Hull debut against Millwall - United’s FA Cup fourth round opponents - at lunchtime on Saturday, with the club currently third from bottom. The boss has left the door open for a longer stay for Gelhardt, who is contracted to Leeds until 2027.

Speaking about that possibility, Selles told BBC Humberside Sport: “First of all, we need to see how the cooperation works and what we want from each other.

“Hopefully, when we arrive into the summer, we are in a good place, he has made the things that we expect him to do with the team and then, we can have another conversation about that. So, that will mean we’re in a good place.”

Upon his move being made official, Gelhardt hinted at his frustrations over his lack of playing time at Leeds. He said: “It’s a happy moment for me. I’ve spoken to the manager about the plans and direction the club is going in and I can’t wait to get started and get playing.

“Every footballer wants to train hard all week and get rewarded with playing on the weekend. That hasn’t happened for me in the last few years so I’m really excited to get playing again and get that matchday feeling back.”
