Huddersfield Town battled back from two goals down to claim a 2-2 draw at Blackpool on Saturday lunchtime.

First half strikes from Rob Apter and Albie Morgan had put Town’s lengthy unbeaten run in jeopardy, but goals within the opening five minutes of the second half from debutant Joe Taylor and Brodie Spencer salvaged a point for the Terriers at Bloomfield Road.

The result leaves Michael Duff’s side fourth in League One, on 48 points from 25 games played, with Town now 16 matches without defeat in the division.

Head coach Duff made two changes from the side that won 1-0 at Wycombe Wanderers last time out. New signings Taylor and Dion Charles were brought straight into the starting lineup, replacing Callum Marshall and Bojan Radulovic in the team.

Charles had the game’s first opportunity with just over a minute played as the new recruit took aim from distance, but the striker’s effort went wide of the target.

Josh Koroma had a strike closed down outside the box, while Matty Pearson also headed wide from Tom Lees’ cross within the opening ten minutes. The Seasiders took the lead in the 11th minute, as Apter cut in from the right-hand side before firing a low left-footed strike past Jacob Chapman from inside the box.

A lengthy stoppage followed soon after, owing to a medical emergency in the crowd, with the game getting back underway around ten minutes later.

Ben Wiles went close for Town shortly after the half-hour mark as the midfielder fired past goalkeeper Harry Tyrer, but Oliver Casey was there to clear the ball away.

Ollie Turton was also charged down inside the box, while Spencer did superbly to clear James Husband’s cross off the line in the 43rd minute with Chapman beaten.

Lee Evans curled an effort wide for the hosts as injury-time got underway, while Charles had a strike charged down soon after at the other end.

Blackpool doubled their lead in the fourth minute of stoppage time, as Ashley Fletcher’s cross from the byline was parried away by Chapman, but only as far as Morgan, whose strike went in off the crossbar despite the best efforts of Town’s stopper to keep it out, sending the Seasiders into the break in command.

Duff turned to his bench at the interval, with Jonathan Hogg and Antony Evans replacing Herbie Kane and Joe Hodge in midfield.

Taylor brought the Terriers back into the game just two minutes after the break with a debut goal. Evans’ high cross from the right was taken down and drilled past Tyrer superbly by the new recruit.

The comeback was complete within the opening five minutes of the second half. Spencer drove forward from just inside the opposing half, before the defender’s curling effort from just outside the box took a deflection and found the top corner.

The Tangerines spurned a good opportunity to regain the lead three minutes before the hour mark, as a cross from CJ Hamilton found Apter well placed inside the box, but the winger skied his effort over the bar.

The hosts went close with two further chances back-to-back soon after, with both Apter and Morgan finding Town bodies in the way of their attempts on goal.

The Seasiders couldn’t take advantage of another excellent opportunity shortly before the 70-minute mark. The ball dropped to Tom Bloxham inside the box after Town turned over possession cheaply, but the new signing’s effort went just past the post.

Marshall was next to go close for the Terriers, with the substitute firing a low effort from range just wide of the target. Lees then almost put Town in front 11 minutes from time, but the centre-back’s header from Spencer’s cross was turned around the post by Tyrer.

Despite the flurry of chances in the lead up to the final ten minutes, neither side could create a decisive moment in the closing stages, as they were made to settle for a point apiece.
