New Huddersfield Town signing Joe Taylor admits he’s “delighted to finally get this one over the line” after joining the club from Luton Town for an undisclosed fee.

Town have bolstered their attacking options by bringing in Taylor from the Championship outfit, with the forward penning a deal with the Terriers until 2029.

The striker joins the club having netted 22 goals across loan spells with Colchester United and Lincoln City last term, with the attacker going on to make 13 appearances for the Hatters in the first half of this season.

Having come close to signing for Town during the summer, Taylor is pleased to have completed his switch following the reopening of the transfer window this month.

“Obviously I’m delighted to finally get this one over the line. It’s been in the pipeline for a long time now, and I’m just thankful that this time we managed to sign on the dotted line,” Town’s new recruit told HTTV.

“I owe a lot of this move to Mark Cartwright (sporting director). He’s been the one that’s been in regular contact obviously with my team, and he’s the one that’s been persistent in this, and ensuring that it does get over the line, and I’m just very grateful that it has.

“Me and the gaffer (Michael Duff) have kept in contact as much as we can over the period that Huddersfield have been interested, but it’s really good to have had his support and advice along the way, and now I’m looking forward to getting going.”

Taylor joins a side that sit fourth in the League One table, with Town having their sights firmly set on securing promotion back to the Championship this term.

Michael Duff’s outfit are unbeaten in their last 15 league games, and are four points off the automatic promotion spots with just over half of the season now played.

The new signing is hoping to play his part in sealing a return to the second tier for Town. He said: “The direction in which the football club is going, obviously gunning for promotion, hopefully we do that automatically, and if not we’ll hopefully go through the play-offs.

“Me coming in, I’m just here to try and score as many goals as possible, and then work as hard as I can to get this club back where it belongs – in the Championship.

“I think it’s 15 unbeaten now in the league, and I also see that you create loads of chances week in, week out, and as a striker, that’s something I feed off. That’s what I need to get the best out of me, and I just hope that I can just be the one to finish off those chances.”

Taylor first demonstrated his goal-scoring potential in a loan spell with then Eastern Counties Premier Division outfit Wroxham, where he netted 21 goals in just 13 appearances at the beginning of the 2021/22 campaign.

The striker was subsequently recalled by parent club King’s Lynn Town and went on to earn a move to Peterborough United in November 2021, initially joining their Under-23s squad.

After just over two years and 19 first-team appearances with Posh, Taylor joined Luton in January 2023, with the forward going on to feature in the Championship play-off final against Coventry City. He netted in the penalty shootout as the Hatters sealed promotion to the Premier League.

Taylor then scored 12 goals for League Two outfit Colchester in the first half of last term, before being recalled by the Hatters and sent out on loan to League One side Lincoln, where he netted a further ten times.

Town’s new recruit is eager to kick on during his time at the John Smith’s Stadium. He said: “I am a confident guy. I do believe that if I’m playing in a side that creates a lot of chances, I will score a lot of goals.

“At the same time, I’m not naive, I know I’m only young and I know I’ve got plenty of development left in me, and I believe that this is a football club where I will get that.”

Describing himself as a player, Taylor added: “If I could sum it up into three words, I would say quick, powerful and clinical. As a striker, I think they’re what you need.”
