Newcastle United have been handed a blow in their reported transfer pursuit of PSV Eindhoven star Johan Bakayoko.

Reports in recent months have heavily linked the Magpies a move for Bakayoko, with the rumours intensifying as the January transfer window opened. The speculation first emerged during the summer and the 21-year-old has continued to be credited as a potential target ever since.

Bakayoko has scored six goals with three assists for PSV this season. It was reported by Caught Offside last month that Newcastle will face competition from Liverpool for Bakayoko's signature, while Arsenal have also been mentioned as potential suitors in separate reports.

Now a fresh update has emerged with Bakayoko's agent, Gerard Witters, handing Newcastle a blow in their hopes of signing the player this month. The Magpies have until February 3 to complete their transfer business, but when it comes to Bakayoko that may be an irrelevance after his agent's latest comments.

“Bakayoko will not leave PSV this season, regardless of the amount," Witters said, via the Sunday Mirror.

Bakayoko is reported to be valued by PSV at around €60million (£50million). The Belgium international typically plays on the right wing for the Eredivisie club, the same position that is currently occupied by Jacob Murphy in the Newcastle team.

It remains to be seen what the future will hold when it comes to the possibility of Bakayoko leaving PSV, but the stance from his agent indicates that a move won't be happening before the deadline early next month. If Newcastle do have an interest, though, the wait will now go on to see if the club decide to wait until the summer to try and bring the forward to St James' Park.
