Time is now starting to run out for Tottenham to add a second centre-back signing to Ange Postecoglou's squad. We are into the final hours of the January transfer window, with all Premier League clubs having until 11pm on Monday evening to complete any remaining business.

Centre-back has been a priority area for Tottenham since the window opened but it wasn't until Sunday morning when the club finally strengthened in the position. Kevin Danso has joined Tottenham on loan from Lens with an obligation to make the move permanent in the summer.

The Austrian's debut could potentially come on Thursday evening when Tottenham travel to Liverpool for the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie. Postecoglou will be hoping that he has an additional player or two to choose from this week as Spurs have another big cup game on the calendar when they face Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Sunday evening.

Despite the arrival of Danso, Spurs are still rather light at the heart of defence as Ben Davies and Archie Gray played alongside each other in Sunday's 2-0 win at Brentford. Tottenham will hope to have Micky van de Ven in their starting XI at Liverpool after electing to leave him out of the matchday squad at the Gtech Community Stadium and instead manage his minutes.

While it will come as a massive boost to have Van de Ven available on a consistent basis after a long period on the sidelines, the exact injury timeline for Radu Dragusin will soon become clear after he injured his knee in last Thursday's Europa League win against Elfsborg. Speaking about the signing of Danso in his post-match press conference, Postecoglou also spoke about Dragusin's injury and stated "it doesn't look good".

"Great to get Kevin in. We desperately need a defender, but getting him is great because he's a great fit for us," he said. "He's had a strong career, but he's at an age now where he really wants to kick on.

"He's got all the attributes we look for, he's really strong one-on-one, he's quick, he's dynamic, he wants to play on the ball, so, and like I said he's just at a stage of his career where he's really determined to kick on now and make an impact. So really pleased, I think it'll be a lift for the whole group.

"With Radu, we'll probably have more information tomorrow. It doesn't look good, but I think he's seeing specialists tomorrow and we'll have more information then."

Also in Postecoglou's press conference, the Australian outlined that Cristian Romero is "still a little bit away" from a return. Out of action since coming off early on in the 4-3 defeat against Chelsea in December, Romero was slated for a return at the end of January but the boss even admitted ahead of the Brentford game that it's "a bit of a tricky one" with the World Cup winner.

Asked on Sunday if he is looking for another centre-back on the last day of the window, he said: "Look I think, again, it's about seeing where we're at in terms of the fit of the player. It's not just about bringing another body in, I've said that all along.

"We're still a little bit thin defensively, I think. It goes under the radar, but the job Archie Gray's doing is just ridiculous. 18 years old, he's never played centre-back before, he's playing in the Premier League, and Europe midweek, every game. It's just incredible, that's he's churning it out. And Ben's been brilliant.

"But really at the moment, Micky we've got to be careful with, obviously, because he's been out for a while. Getting him back's great. Cristian, we feel, still a little bit away. Again, if the right opportunity exists, we'll go for it."

Amid the wait on Dragusin's injury and question marks over an exact return date for Romero, the fact Spurs also have to be careful with Van de Ven means they cannot afford to leave themselves too short in defence as they look to compete on four fronts. It really is something Johan Lange cannot afford to fail with as Tottenham aim to have sufficient numbers for the run-in after their squad struggles for so much of the campaign.

Now not pursuing a loan move for Chelsea's Axel Disasi after initially holding talks with the west London club for the Frenchman, Spurs have also seen a late move for Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace knocked back. football.london understands Tottenham enquired about the Eagles star's availability this month but Palace do not want to lose him mid-season, with reports suggesting that an offer worth up to £70million was rejected.

Lange will have other names on his centre-back list and it is now about acquiring another player in that area of the pitch prior to Monday's 11pm deadline. After such a frustrating transfer window so far in the club's hour of need, Tottenham cannot afford for the winter market to finish on a negative.
