John Egan's first words after Hull City transfer from Burnley as late night call revealed
New Hull City signing John Egan has revealed how a late-night phone call on Sunday night changed the next 18 months of his footballing career.
Egan joined City on deadline day after penning an 18-month deal at the MKM Stadium with the Tigers after striking a deal with Burnley and became the club's latest arrival in the winter window, bolstering their defensive ranks for the hugely important run-in which they hope will see then stave off the threat of a damaging relegation to League One.
City had held discussions earlier this month with the 32-year-old former Sheffield United star, but stepped up that interest in the hours before the window closed and in the aftermath of Saturday's hugely frustrating 2-1 home defeat to Stoke City, which left the Tigers perched precariously above the drop zone with just 16 games of the campaign remaining.

“I’m delighted. I’d known about the interest for a couple of weeks but wasn’t sure if it was going to happen. Last night, I got a call and I made my way over this morning," Egan said. "The club has made some really good signings in January. It’s a really good squad, a very good manager; it just needs to drive up the league now.
“The manager has steadied things and the team plays some good football, high intensity, on the front foot. They’re the type of teams you want to play in. I’ve played a lot of games in this division, managed to get promoted twice. Every game is really hard and the main thing is about being consistent. Having consistent standards in training leads to consistent performances on a matchday.
“I’m looking forward to the future, putting on the black and amber, being a Hull City player. I’ll give it my all, and hopefully, we can achieve success together."
